Because API is a not-for-profit organisation, we do not have to pay dividends to shareholders. Any money made is reinvested to provide you with more discounts.

API also owns holiday accommodation in some idyllic locations around Australia, where you can stay at rates well below the market rate.

A little bit of history

API was started by the Postmaster-General (PMG), the Honourable William Webster MP, in 1918.

In 1975, the Postmaster General’s Department (PMG) was split into two sections, Telecom Australia and Australia Post. Telecom later rebranded to become Telstra. API continued to serve staff from both organisations.

As friends and family found out about the benefits available from API, API opened its doors to people outside of Telstra and Australia Post.
